Job Title: Spot Market Broker/Customer Service
Location: 460 S Orange St. SLC, UT. 84104
Employment: Part Time (0730 – 12:30)
Job Summary:
A Spot Market Broker plays a pivotal role in facilitating real-time transactions between shippers and carriers in the dynamic spot freight market. This position requires strong negotiation skills, market knowledge, and the ability to make quick decisions to meet customer demands while maximizing profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Freight Brokerage: Secure transportation services by connecting shippers with carriers for spot market loads, ensuring timely delivery and competitive pricing.
- Rate Negotiation: Negotiate rates with carriers and shippers to achieve mutually beneficial agreements.
- Load Management: Manage and track shipments, providing real-time updates to clients and addressing any issues or delays.
- Carrier Relations: Develop and maintain relationships with a network of reliable carriers to ensure consistent capacity and service quality.
- Market Analysis: Monitor current market conditions, including freight trends, capacity availability, and rate fluctuations, to provide competitive pricing.
- Customer Service: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, addressing their needs, resolving concerns, and ensuring satisfaction.
- Compliance: Ensure all transactions and carrier operations comply with federal and state regulations.
- Documentation: Prepare and manage required documentation for freight shipments, including contracts, invoices, and delivery confirmations.
- Technology Use: Utilize transportation management systems (TMS) and other software tools to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in freight brokerage, logistics, or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of the spot freight market and industry regulations.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make quick decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency in using transportation management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
Preferred Skills:
- Previous experience working with dry van, refrigerated, and flatbed freight.
- Familiarity with digital freight matching platforms.
- Experience with load boards such as DAT and Truckstop.com.
- Knowledge of Aljex is a plus.
